Four years in the making, the album was recorded in Vai's Mothership studio in L.A. It features eleven highly anticipated tracks by Vai. The album is the first volume of a three part “concept trilogy” featuring the legendary guitar virtuoso in fine form. The concept disc is said to be "roughly 50% instrumental and 50% vocal."

Steve Vai handles the vocals, and plays six and seven string electric and acoustic guitars, as well as a Roland guitar synth. Supporting him on bass is Billy Sheehan and Jereme Colton on drums. The 6505 is also the relaunch of the 5150 Series, the immensely popular amplifiers Peavey designed with Edward Van Halen.
As previously announced, when Peavey and Van Halen parted ways amicably in December 2004, Van Halen retained the 5150 name while Peavey retained the amp's tone and circuitry. In fact, Peavey made only one alteration to the 5150 before relaunching it as the 6505: changing the logo beneath its metal grille. Rest assured, the signature raw rock tones guitar players have known and loved for the past 14 years are alive, loud and proud in the Peavey 6505 Series.

6505 Series amps feature five 12AX7 preamp tubes and four 6L6GC power amp tubes, with presence and resonance controls and three-band EQ for taming their notorious tone. These amps are available in a standard 120 Watt head (6505 and 6505+) and a 60 Watt 2x12 combo with two Peavey Sheffield® loudspeakers (6505 212). The matching 6505 412 cabinets are outfitted with four Sheffield loudspeakers.

While known as the 5150, these amps became the undisputed go-to guitar amps for scores of rock, hardcore and metal bands due to their raw tone, relentless power and road-proven reliability. The 6505 is still the unquestionable choice for an ever-expanding list of endorsers, including 3 Doors Down, Ted Nugent, Atreyu, Steve Morse, In Flames, Arch Enemy, Visqueen, God Forbid, HIMSA, Darkest Hour, Sworn Enemy, Unearth and many more.

Peavey 6505 Series amplifiers will be available in February 2005 from authorized Peavey retailers. The C-1 Exotic features an arched mahogany body with a thick solid Flamed Maple top and will be available in two hand applied oil finishes; Antique Black Stain and Natural. The C-1 Exotic is definitely a sleek and elegant looking guitar that is sure to turn heads.

The 25 1/2" scale 3-piece mahogany neck is set into the body using Schecter's trademarked “Ultra Access” contoured heel, which allows unobstructed upper fret playability. The fingerboard is made of ebony and has 24 jumbo frets.

The new Exotic guitar features dual Schecter Superock II humbuckers pickups. The new models range from new signature models from top artists to special models commemorating the company’s 30th anniversary.

“"We'’re very proud of our new 2005 models,"” says Masciandaro. “The last few years have seen record growth for ESP, along with our LTD and X-Tone brands. We feel our 2005 line represents our finest, most diverse collection of guitars and basses in ESP’s history.”

Five new Signature Series models top ESP’s new offerings. The Truckster (SEE RELATED RELEASE) is the fifth signature model guitar from Metallica frontman James Hetfield. Available under both the ESP and LTD brands, the Truckster is a high-performance single-cutaway guitar that features a unique aged primer gray finish with custom distress patterns designed by Hetfield. The Axxion (pronounced “Action”) is one of two new ESP Signature Series models from Megadeth leader Dave Mustaine (SEE RELATED RELEASE). Designed for rock, the Axxion’s menacing axe-like shape is accentuated with black hardware on its all-black finish. The Axxion will also be available as both an ESP and LTD model. Mustaine has also lent his name to another new guitar for LTD, the affordable DV-200. Based on the popular DV-8 model introduced last year, the DV-200 offers a similar V body style in a bolt-on maple neck and basswood body design.

ESP’s 30th anniversary is being commemorated with four special models, only to be produced during the 2005 calendar year. The EC-2005, F-2005, and Viper-2005 guitars, and B-2005 bass, are all high-end representations of ESP’s popular models that feature custom inlays and graphics derived from the company’s distinctive conjoined winged serpents 30th anniversary logo.

ESP is also premiering a new addition to their X-Tone Series semi-acoustic guitars. The PA-1 Thinline Acoustic Electric offers a mahogany body with maple top; a 3-piece mahogany neck; a rosewood fingerboard; pearl block inlays; a B-Band Transducer pickup system with active preamp controls; volume, treble & bass controls; chrome hardware; Grover tuners; a rosewood acoustic bridge; and triple layer creme binding on the body, neck and headstock.

Four more new LTD models are being premiered at NAMM. The AX Series has been expanded with three new guitars: the AX-400, AX-250 and AX-50. While each model offers the highly stylized AX body shape, the AX-400 and AX-250 also include a tribal fingerboard inlay pattern. The AX-400 also features a set-through neck construction and EMG 81 pickups. Finally, the Viper-407 takes the company’s hugely-popular double-cutaway model and makes it available in a 7-string version. The mahogany-bodied guitar offers an Earvana compensated nut as standard equipment, as well as white binding on the black satin neck and headstock.

Specific details on all new ESP, LTD and X-Tone models can be found here.

Other ESP Guitars Resources:
ESP Guitars on MegaGuitars.com

B.C. Operator brings an eclectic spectrum of sonic possibilities and musical inspiration to Ableton Live users. True to Ableton’s philosophy, Operator invites creativity through the fusion of depth and usability, allowing even the most complex sounds to be created quickly. Whether you long for evolving synthetic textures, rich expressive leads, gritty percussion, rhythmic atmospheres or anything in between, Operator has the cure.

Describing the vision and research behind Operator, Ableton conceptualist Robert Henke explains, “Our aim was to create a truly unique and inspiring instrument that combined the sonic richness and character of hardware synthesizers with the power of Ableton Live. By integrating Operator with Live, we were able to give users the flexibility and power of clip envelopes, hands-on control and zero latency. More importantly, Operator sounds amazing!”

Easy to Operate. Like Live, Operator’s design is geared toward promoting creativity and maximizing workflow efficiency. A set of highly varied and musical presets, sorted by category, is provided for quick access to Operator’s sonic spectrum. At the next level, two intuitive macro controls called “Time” and “Tone” can be used to modify the overall characteristics of the sound, handling complex operations through a single action. The most essential parameters of Operator’s synthesis engine are individually represented on the front panel. Musicians who enjoy detailed sonic surgery can use Operator’s central display to access the instrument’s graphic envelope editors and other advanced controls.

Hearing is believing. The core of Operator’s voice architecture consists of four oscillators and a resonant multimode filter. This setup allows for both subtractive and frequency modulation (FM) synthesis. In addition to a wide selection of sine waveforms, which faithfully emulate the aliasing artifacts of classic hardware FM synthesizers, each of Operator’s oscillators can also generate “virtual analog” synthesis waveforms such as saw, square, triangle and noise. Each oscillator can either deliver audio signals to the output or modulate other oscillators. To allow further dissection of your sound, Operator’s filter section, LFO and pitch envelope add great flexibility and expressive modulation possibilities.

Integration. Following Live's refreshing design philosophy, Operator is powerful without demanding screen real estate. Every parameter of Operator can be automated or remote-controlled via MIDI, allowing you to get completely hands on. Parameters can also be controlled via Live's clip envelopes.

Learn to Operate. To learn Operator is to love it. Operator includes several integrated lessons, complete with screenshots and sound examples, so that you can quickly discover the power of Operator’s flexible sound design ability. The Operator lessons even take you through creating a variety of sounds from scratch. Each lesson is accessible via the Live 4 Help menu.

Operator Pricing and Availability. To purchase or try Operator, simply download the 4.1 update of Live from the Ableton website www.ableton.com. An activation code for Operator can be purchased online for 129 Euro 149 USD.

About Live. Live is the only music-production solution that allows you to spontaneously compose, record, remix, improvise and edit your musical ideas. Live brings your acoustic, electronic and virtual instruments, as well as your digital audio recordings, together in a single interface with unparalleled ease of use. In the end, Live lets you focus on what really matters: your music.

About Ableton. Ableton develops modern software technology to inspire creative people. Since the company started in 1999, more than thirty-five developers and business professionals have joined Ableton – many of them active musicians or DJs. The company has received outstanding press and customer feedback since the unveiling of Live in October 2001.

Official Ableton Website - www.ableton.com
Ableton software on Keyboards-and-Synths.com
Ableton software on AudioMidi.com

Kustom Announces New Coupe Amps At NAMM 2005

PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CINCINNATI, OHIO. JANUARY 20, 2005 -Tapping into the classic look of its colorful 1960s and ‘70s-era instrument amplifiers, Kustom® now redefines the term “Tuck n’ Roll” for a new generation of players with the introduction of its road-ready Coupe™ Series guitar amplifiers. The all-tube models, which are made in America using U.S. and imported parts, offer a fresh take on Kustom’s patented visual aesthetics while cranking out a variety of ballsy tube amp tones.

Kustom introduces two models at Winter NAMM: the 36 Coupe and the ’72 Coupe. Noted amp guru James Brown, Kustom’s chief engineer, designed both models with the engineering team at Kustom’s Cincinnati headquarters. The new Coupes utilize 12AX7 preamp and 6L6 power tube platforms and are rated at 36 and 72 watts respectively. Both amps have two channels, each with a Volume control with pull-Bright function plus a Master Volume, allowing users to dial in everything from sparkling clean runs to stinging blues licks and fat, roaring rock sounds.

The Coupe tube amps use a partially self-biased power amp design that allows the power tubes to subsidize a secondary fixed-bias scheme,” said Brown. The result is an amplifier with the best of both worlds: self-biased reliability with the increase power of a fixed-bias design. Our decision to build in the United States with U.S. and imported parts allows us to utilize advantages from our current mass manufacturing processes while keeping the bulk of the handcrafted cabinetry, final assembly and quality assurance done locally in Cincinnati, Ohio. Using this method, we’re able to build amps with boutique amp quality at production amp prices.”

The Coupe’s EQ section provides Bass, Middle and Treble controls. Both models feature an Accutronics spring reverb unit with Intensity and Tone controls, a nod to the “old school” Kustom amps. The higher-powered ’72 Coupe also provides Kustom’s original Tremolo and Vibrato effects with Tremolo, Speed, and Vibrato controls. Channel-switching, effects and Master Volume Boost are all accessible using the Coupe’s complimentary footswitch.
Drawing further on its heritage, Kustom teamed up with U.S. speaker manufacturer Eminence® to produce an all-new line of speakers for the Coupe Series. The result is the KEI™ (Kustom-Eminence Integrated) guitar speaker, a modern interpretation of a vintage design featuring an aluminum dustcap. According to Brown, this exclusive design gives players a taste of the original vintage speaker’s unique tonal properties which were great for cleaner tones, while successfully handling more modern, higher gain sounds as well. The new “KEI Turbo12” speakers are used in both the ’36 Coupe (one 12-inch) and ’72 Coupe (two 12-inch) models.

Visually, the Coupe Series plays off the classic Kustom Tuck n’ Roll car upholstery vibe, but this time featuring the sparkly padded material on an integrated panel that runs along the amp’s upper, horizontal front edge. Each handcrafted cabinet is built using 100 percent Baltic Birch and features a vintage suitcase-style handle, premium tolex covering, Plexiglas control panel and authentic recreations of Kustom’s distinctive control knobs.

The whole idea of the Coupe tube series was to take elements of the original Kustom products and include modern details that we’ve all become accustomed to, like channel switching, higher gain, effects loop and high-quality, double-sided printed circuit boards so every amp sounds the same. It was a lot of fun creating something new using the original Kustom designs, while being able to incorporate some fresh new ideas in the process,” said Brown.

We’re excited to offer players an all-tube guitar amp that taps into Kustom’s heritage as one of America’s original rock n’ roll amplifiers,” said Mark Hunter, Kustom’s marketing manager. “The Coupes certainly have a distinctive look, but more importantly, they rock. Players seeking gutsy tube tones that are loaded with harmonic content will really appreciate the Kustom Coupes.” Kustom will display the new Coupe Series at the Winter NAMM show.

Kustom Amps at www.kustom.com
Kustom Amps at MegaGuitars.com
Kustom Amps at Power Alley

Daisy Rock Guitars

Daisy Rock Guitars - Guitars for Girls - Daisy Rock is a line of electric guitars for girls. Explore the expressive options of sound-on-sound performance by layering your own phrases to create a massive “one-person band” experience. Build the ultimate solo, and do it all live in real time.

- Super long recording time: up to 16 minutes
- Save up to 11 loops at a time
- Undo function makes it easy to create perfect loops
- Built-in auto quantize for simple and accurate loop timing
- Change loop tempo without changing pitch
- Footswitchable loop select (with optional FS-5U/FS-6)

The RC-20XL picks up where the popular RC-20 leaves off, as it offers more recording time and more features, but at the same price as the RC-20. The RC-20XL has the same “hands-free” pedal operation as the original RC-20. Record, Play, and Overdub can be done with the left pedal, all the while your hands are free to play your instruments. The RC-20XL gives you 16 minutes of recording time to capture and store loops or one-shot phrases (three times that of the RC-20), and you can work your way backward thanks to the new Undo function, a necessity when making mistakes during overdub.

Performance Tools
The RC-20XL has 11 memory tracks, in which you have the choice of storing either one-shot phrases or loop phrases. During your performance, you can switch between the tracks with an optional FS-6 Dual Footswitch, or two FS-5U footswitches (momentary-type). The Undo function can be a useful and musical function for erasing your previous phrase and instantly layering a new one.

The RC-20XL offers three stop options when you hit the pedal:
1) immediately stop the playback
2) let the phrase play until the end
3) fade it out.

BOSS RC-20XL
http://www.bosscorp.co.jp/products/en/RC-20XL/details.html

Fender Cyber-Twin SE

The Cyber-Twin SE is the second version of the Fender Cyber-Twin amp.
